Camp Counselors
Teana Freeden
Program Director
Teana Fredeen is the Outreach Coordinator for the College of Engineering. She is passionate about promoting engineering to children and youth, and is excited about what the Engineering Days summer camp will bring to high school students. Teana is an alumna from Cal Poly with a BS in Aeronautical Engineering. She has spent 18 years in technical marketing and sales management, working for Ziatech Corporation, Intel Corporation and Norcast Communications. She is married with two children and teaches ballroom dancing in San Luis Obispo.
Ginelle Brown
Co-Director
Ginelle Brown moved to Lancaster, CA after living and going to school in the beautiful state of Washington for 9 years. She majored in Biology at Seattle University and just finished her first year of graduate studies in Biomedical Engineering here at Cal Poly. She is an active member of SWE and Team Tech and enjoys yoga, hip hop dancing and kung fu. Her favorite color is fuschia and she also adores cats.
Jeremy Lamb
Co-Director
Jeremy is a seventh year (yes, you read that right) Industrial Engineering Masters student from San Jose, California. He has a minor in English, harboring a particular interest in poetry. If he weren't helping out with Engineering days, he'd be spending extra time at his other job, driving around some fancy cars. Outside of school and work, Jeremy plays racquetball (with a vengeance), practices karate, cycles (to save gas), hikes, and enjoys photography (especially of his two kitties).
Matt Justus
Head Counselor
Matt is a fourth year Industrial Engineering student from Camarillo, Ca. He is minoring in Computer Science and is very active in both the WOW and Open House programs at Cal Poly. In his rare spare time, Matt really enjoys snowboarding and listening to his favorite band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Maggie Herzog
Counselor
Maggie is a fourth year Environmental Engineering student from Redwood City, CA (BAY AREA!). Maggie loves being a student at Cal Poly, so she tries to get involved in as many things as she can. Maggie rarely misses a Cal Poly football or basketball game, likes to go bowling, go camping, recycle, and do craft projects, and is involved with one of the coolest clubs on campus, Engineers Without Borders. In her spare time, Maggie volunteers at the local animal shelter and practices her extreme guitar hero skills (not at the same time...). Maggie is super excited about Engineering Days Summer Camp!!
Chester Matkey
Counselor
Chester is a third year Aerospace Engineering Major switching to Industrial Engineering from Rocklin, CA. He plans on minoring in graphic design or philosophy and is a part of the Poly Reps campus ambassadors as well as Week of Welcome, the freshman orientation program. Chester enjoys cooking for his friends, cycling, anything arts and crafts-ish, and dancing his heart out to hip hop and funk music.
Natalie Lacey
Counselor
Natalie is a second year Biomedical Engineering student from Bakersfield, Ca. She is involved with Intervarsity on campus, and is excited to be a counselor this summer. She loves the beach, snowboarding, and is an avid reader. Natalie hopes to use her degree in Biomedical Engineering to pursue a career in tissue engineering.
Erin Stearns
Counselor
Erin is a third year Aerospace Engineering student from Chino Hills, CA. She is actively involved in various music ensembles at Cal Poly where she plays the tuba and is also an officer in the Cal Poly Society of Women Engineers (SWE). In any free time, she enjoys playing instruments or being outdoors either hiking, kayaking, biking or playing sports.
Michael Barnes
Counselor
Michael is a second year Mechanical Engineer from Oakhurst, California. He likes to spend his alone time reading or playing piano. When Mike's with friends he enjoys anything involving large bodies of water as well as hiking and exploring.
Reymundo Ortiz
Counselor
Reymundo is a fifth year Materials Engineering student and will be graduating in June 2009. He was raised in Escondido, CA but now lives in Ramona, CA. He is currently the Second Vice President for SHPE, or Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Rey is very active and enjoys running and swimming as well as hiking.
Michele Mayorga
Counselor
Michele just graduated from Cal Poly this last June as a Software Engineer. She is from Northridge, Ca. and she is starting full time work with Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach late July. At Cal Poly Michele was one of the cofounders of the Women Involved in Software and Hardware (WISH) club. In her free time, she is also a tropical fish hobbiest. She currently has 3 fish including a blue tang, a yellow tang and a clown fish.
Melissa Humber
Counselor
Melissa Humber is an Architectural Engineering student from Montebello, Ca. She transferred to Cal Poly from Mt. San Antonio Community College in Southern California. She currently works as a summer intern for a structural engineering firm in downtown Los Angeles. She is also part of two engineering clubs on campus, they are SHPE and SEAOC. When she's not in school or volunteering she likes watching new music videos, dancing and practicing Muay Thai.
